I’m currently working on a World War 1-related film and theatre installation project, entitled What If?
The piece is set in Flanders in April 1918. Two soldiers – one German, one British – lie seemingly dead in a shell hole in a wood. As the German soldier awakes, he begins a conversation with the British soldier. A relationship then develops between the living and the dead.
The conscious and subconscious thoughts of the German soldier unfold, as he confronts the social expectation of his noble upbringing: that he will become a leader of men.
